Backpack Buddies & Kids In Motion
Access to quality education, setting kids up for success in school and encouraging physical activity as a means to improve health and education outcomes is very much aligned with the Brian Jordan Foundation’s mission to improve the quality of life and help children reach their full potential.
In 2018, BJF partnered with the Lambda Epsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. to support 6 schools in the Greater Atlanta area serving families in low income, transient and refugee communities where more than 91% of children are dependent on free/reduced lunches. Brian Jordan Foundation provided 450 back packs with school supplies, books and hygiene supplies to help get children and families off to a good start for the 2018-2019 school year. |
In 2018, BJF is working with Cigna and Cigna Foundation to develop and pilot a Kids In Motion program that will provide curriculum resources and support to teachers in elementary schools struggling to incorporate physical activity into their day. Many of our local schools have little or no outdoor space for play, and facing cuts to PE programs and recess, these factors are contributing to an increase in obesity and health related issues and a decrease in productivity in the classroom. The Kids in Motion program will strive to develop feasible, relevant programming that can be deployed in elementary schools across the state and beyond.
